This course provides an introduction to fundamental concepts in modern linguistics, with emphasis on linguistic analysis. The textbook provides a thorough survey of topics in core areas of contemporary linguistics. Lectures and review sections will further develop selected topics of importance. Classroom work will emphasize the development of the ability to apply linguistic principles to the analysis of data drawn from a variety of languages.
