This course provides students with knowledge of theories and methodology regarding the field of Computer-Mediated Communication. The major research areas covered include interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, and intercultural communication. Research topics concerning Social Network Sites, Human-Machine Communication, AI-Mediated Communication, Metaverse Technologies Applications, as well as new trending social, mobile, and streaming media will be covered. Weekly readings will be assigned on topics including ‘Preliminaries of CMC and HCI’, ‘CMC and Interpersonal, Group, Organizational, Intercultural Communications’, ‘Automated Journalism and Immersive Journalism’, ‘CMC and Risk/Crisis/Health/Science/Environmental/Political Communications’. This seminar course requires students to write presentations/commentaries/reflections on weekly readings and prepare for class discussions. Students will conduct a theoretical and empirical research to demonstrate their learning and knowledge of the course related materials and to reflect on critical discussions of the key issues arising from the field.
